Our Religion Program
At Sacred Heart School, our Religion program nurtures the spiritual growth of our students by providing them with a deep understanding of their faith through engaging and age-appropriate lessons. We use two key resources to guide their journey:
Word of Life (Grades K-6)
Word of Life is a Catholic religion curriculum that helps students deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith while growing in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Rooted in Sacred Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and the rich tradition of the Church, students explore what Catholics believe, how we worship, how we are called to live, and how God invites each of us into a life of discipleship.
Prayer, reflection, discussion, and connections to everyday life are woven throughout the curriculum. Students are encouraged to ask meaningful questions, grow in their understanding of Catholic teaching, recognize the dignity of every person, and discover how they can live as joyful disciples of Christ in their families, school, parish, and community.
Renewed & Received (Ascension Press)
Through engaging lessons, Scripture, prayer, discussion, activities, and age-appropriate teaching, students learn not only what Catholics believe about the Sacraments, but also why these encounters with Jesus are so meaningful in our lives.
In preparation for First Reconciliation, students explore God’s love and mercy, the difference between right and wrong, sin and forgiveness, the Ten Commandments, examination of conscience, and the steps of celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Students come to understand Reconciliation not simply as admitting what we have done wrong, but as an opportunity to receive God’s grace, healing, and forgiveness.
As students prepare for First Holy Communion, they learn about the Mass, the Last Supper, the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, and the importance of receiving Christ with reverence and gratitude. Lessons help students recognize that the Eucharist is more than a symbol: it is truly Jesus, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity.
